Travel is movement from one place to another. Humans can travel by walking; by riding a bicycle, motorcycle, bus, train or boat; and by air travel. The modes by which humans travel are only limited by imagination and the level of technology at the time of travel.
The mode of travel is also determined by the destination. If one is traveling from one country to another, one usually travels by airplane or by seagoing vessels. If one is going to work, the mode of travel is usually cars, buses, and subways. If one is going to the park or someplace along the neighborhood, one usually walks or travels via bicycles and motorcycles. These classifications are in no way definite, though. The mode of travel still depends on the person doing the traveling.
Travel can have many purposes. One travels when one goes to work. This is called the commute or commuting. One also travels when migrating. This is when a person is relocating life and livelihood someplace else. One also travels when one is on business. This is when a person is traveling to another place to conclude a business transaction, to purchase supplies or inventory and other business purposes. One also travels when on a special, usually religious, mission, like the Moslems travel to Mecca or the Jews travel to Jerusalem. One also travels for vacation or recreational purposes. This is when a person goes on a tour or goes to a specific destination to relax and enjoy activities like surfing, kayaking, snorkeling and the like.
Travel may be short term or extended and may be domestic or international. For extended trips, one usually buys travel insurance to cover against certain emergencies. Travel insurance gives one the requisite peace of mind. For international trips, as have been mentioned earlier, air travel is usually the preferred mode. After all, air travel is faster and less tiresome.
Travel is better arranged with the help of travel agents. For a fee, travel agents will take care of all the aspects of a customer's travel arrangements. You just need to tell them where you want to go and when you want to go and travel agents will take care of the rest. The travel agent will arrange for your lodging or accommodations in your destination, your car rentals if necessary, your airline tickets, and others. If you have no idea where you want to go, travel agents will still be able to assist you by offering you travel packages that could include cruises and island hopping. In a travel package, everything you need like lodging, transport, tickets, etc, will have already been arranged.
Usually, these travel packages fit under discount travel because they are usually cheaper than custom-made travel arrangements.
Before making any sort of travel arrangements one can read travelogues to see if the target destination will be worth the hassle and the expense. Travelogues do not just give general information on travel but also insights and tips which can really help.
